Ana María Martínez “lights up the stage” in Dallas Opera’s La Bohème

Ana María Martínez’s return to the Dallas Opera last Friday was met with warm receptions from both audiences and critics. The Dallas Observer noted that the Puerto Rican soprano’s “beauty and presence light up the stage. Her voice, both powerful and tender, and her superb acting skills perfectly capture Mimì.”

The Dallas Morning News added that Ana María was “compelling as the fragile seamstress Mimì. There’s new texture and expressivity in her soprano, and interactions with Bryan Hymel’s Rodolfo are finely nuanced, especially their initial muddle of ardor and awkwardness.”

“She can spin a seemingly endless phrase with amazing dynamic control,” wrote the Dallas Observer. “Her interpretation of Puccini’s melodies on Friday night were beautiful, subtle, and artistic.”

La Bohème continues at the Dallas Opera through March 29.
