Ana María Martínez opens 2015-16 season with Pagliacci at LA Opera, La Bohème at the Met
Ana María Martínez opens LA Opera’s 30th anniversary season in Zeffirelli’s Pagliacci, performing Nedda opposite Marco Berti and George Gagnidze. Plácido Domingo conducts the epic production featured in a double bill alongside Woody Allen’s production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.
Following her run with LA Opera, Ana María travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she delivers two performances of Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, a role she has performed to great acclaim: “Martínez sang with a poignant vitality that brought forth both the teenage Butterfly’s youthful innocence and, later, her darkest despair” (Opera News).
Rounding out the fall of 2015, Ana María returns to the Metropolitan Opera where she performs the role of Musetta in Zeffirelli’s production of Puccini’s La Bohème. Reuniting with her longtime collaborator Plácido Domingo, the Grammy-winning soprano guests in a gala concert at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on January 9, 2016 under the baton of Sir Andrew Davis. A graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, Ana María returns to perform in the title role in Dvorák’s Rusalka.
