Glyndebourne’s Poliuto featuring Ana María Martínez’s “expressive, haunted account” of Paolina closes July 15

Ana María Martínez, praised for her “expressive, haunted account” of Paolina in Poliuto, sings in the final performance of Donizetti’s tragedy at Glyndebourne on July 15 (WhatsOnStage). With her “Callas-like intensity,” Ana María shines in the seldom-performed bel canto masterpiece (Daily Mail).

The Grammy-winning soprano has been seen and heard in East Sussex since May 21 as part of the UK premiere of Poliuto, directed by Mariame Clément and costarring Michael Fabiano in the title role, following her most recent appearance with the festival in 2009 as the title role in Dvorak’s Rusalka.
