Ana María Martínez’s summer includes Puccini in Munich and Bizet in Santa Fe

Following her acclaimed role debut as Carmen at Houston Grand Opera, Ana María Martínez spends her summer in Munich, Istanbul, Madrid, and Santa Fe in a mixture of operas and gala concerts.

On June 12, 14, and 19, the Puerto Rican soprano returns to the role of Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s tragic romance Madama Butterfly at the Bayerische Staatsoper, starring opposite Joseph Calleja as B.F. Pinkerton. Ana María will also return to Carmen in a new staging of Bizet’s sensuous drama this summer at Santa Fe Opera July 28 and August 2, 6, 11, 16, 20 and 23. Roberto De Biasio is Don José and Kostas Smoriginas sings Escamillo.

In between these productions, Ana María can be heard in two gala concerts. On June 17, she joins Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky for an evening at the Turkish Opera and Ballet Theatre in Istanbul under conductor Constantine Orbelian. The next week, she is heard at the Teatro Real Madrid when she reunites with Plácido Domingo for an evening of song.
